Bloomin’ Marvellous
Objectives
The main objectives behind Bloomin’ Marvellous were straight
forward, within the two ex-mining communities of Easington Colliery
and Horden, we aimed to raise aspiration in a way that would grow
community sprit and foster greater levels of community involvement.
With over 13,000 residents within the two villages, we aimed to involve
at least half of them in everything that was taking place throughout
the two days.
With the help of a small planning group that originally consisted
of Easington Action Team for Jobs, the Neighbourhood Management Pathfinder,
Informnorth Creative Services, District of Easington, Groundwork Trust
and East Durham Business Broker, a schedule of activity was quickly
drawn
up.
The main aims of the activities surrounding Bloomin’' Marvellous
were:
- To help put the heart and pride back into the local community
- Create new jobs and a small local community enterprise
- Improve the general look of the two villages through a programme
of maintenance, tidying up, litter picking and graffiti removal
- To help inspire community involvement and imagination
- Start a process leading to a more unified community with a better
quality of life
- Look at longer term aspects that could help residents enjoy the
results of their hard work
- Plant the seeds for an activity that could grow, develop and be
carried forward into the future
